JCC Early Childhood Program

Our philosophy is based on and embraces the Reggio Emilia philosophy, a child developmental approach emphasizing the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of each child. We feel learning is a dynamic process in which children construct their own knowledge through play and active exploration of and with the environment.

Our child-centered emergent curriculum is built upon observing and understanding each child’s individual skill and interest level and basing curriculum on those observations. Teachers draw upon what they see and hear children doing and discussing; then plan a broad range of related experiences for children that are individually appropriate as well as age-appropriate. Each child is unique, with an individual pattern and pace of development as well as an individual personality, learning style, and family background. Children engage in a variety of activities: gross and fine motor, art, science, pre-reading, pre-math, and creative dramatics. Unique features within the curriculum are weekly swim exploration (dependent on the schedule), gym, cooking, and music sessions. We are currently unable to offer cooking and music due to safety measures but will resume these activities as soon as it is safe to do so!
