The History and Mystery of Glass

Sunday, September 25, 3 pm
Roberta Segal

Since our earliest history, we can imagine the fascination when the sand surrounding a fire pit suddenly converted to a solid material. (We cannot confirm that is how glass was discovered, but let us imagine.) And since that time little has changed in the method of forming the material, — one that captures, reflects, refracts light as none other.Roberta Segal works in many mediums including kiln-formed glass, the oldest method known to man, predating glass blowing. She will demonstrate the process she uses to achieve her finished pieces along with the inclusions that may be used. Is glass craft or art? You will decide as we explore current glass artists and their methods, highlighting those most admired by Roberta.
